So DRAGONKZ offered me his Egret 2 and since I had no room or immediate cash, one of the cabs had to go. I decided on the Blast City, so on the weekend, the Blast City (the one I had for Monkey Ball) got picked up.
All my arcade life, I’ve had the mantra of doing things in “pairs” and up until the weekend, I had all pairs for all my candies… the Egret changes that! I’m committed to at least one blast city as that’s my “novelty cab” (Monkey Ball, Rhythm Tengoku and maybe a spinners cab)
Shortly after, I headed over to DRAGONKZ’s to help him with his Gunbullet cab and also to pick up the E2.
Wouldn’t be a pick up these days without a selfie inside my Dad’s HRV which is slowly becoming the “candy mover” – (I’ve successfully picked up an Astro, Blast City and now Egret with it)
Perfect fit! Nice and snug
One I got her home and sat it next to the Blast, the OCD started getting triggered NOOOOOOOOOOOO
I gave it a quick power on and as expected, it worked like how I expecting… nothing
There’s a number of things to do on this cab, it’s definitely not a ready to go cab, but as with previous cabs, that’s part of the fun and the process.
I also found the cab didn’t have the marquee holder that allows you to mount a plexi marquee to hold particular game artwork.
Things to do:
- Check the JAMMA edge – it’s a classic ex operator setup, there’s a lot of electrical wire there
- Remove electrical wire, patch and heatshrink any wiring
- Check and confirm if all stock wiring is there S, F and P connectors along with the correct wiring
- Check AC wiring
- Send chassis off to Jomac
- Purchase a 1p panel off alberto
- Purchase new buttons off CQB Arcade
- Find a marquee holder/bracket
- Get the marquee laser cut
- Upgrade to a stereo amp
- Upgrade the stock speakers, they’re pretty rubbish
- Do an LED upgrade on the lamp, don’t really want to deal with 100v ballasts that have the screw in starters for the fluorescent tubes
- Of course general clean
- Cut’n’polish
- Install electronic coin mech, the mechanical one has been butchered for an Electronic one (there’s one currently installed for AU coins, not sure if it works.
