Dreamcast shell replacement

I’m sure anybody that has some form of “retro” console knows the pain of the “yellow” UV stained problem we’ve all seen.

The Dreamcast is no different. My Dreamcast wasn’t too bad with yellowing, but replacement shells were quite cheap on Aliexpress so I figured why not?

I ended up getting a red shell although my first choice was the Purple one, sadly, no retailer had these in stock and I wasn’t prepared to pay over 2.5 times the price to purchase from eBay so red shell it was.

A quick look at the units side by side

Installation of the unit is pretty easy, I dare say probably the easiest console to case swap, it’s only a few screws. It really was an easy swap.

De-cased and ready for the swap

I decided to keep the power, open and controller port areas original as I liked the contrast it had with the red shell, I personally think it turned out great

The red plastic is quite similar to my Mad Catz controller only slightly lighter

The biggest complaint I have with this particular case is when the Noctua fan mod is installed, for whatever reason, the open button isn’t anywhere near as smooth as the OEM case. It’s quite rough to press and feels like it’s about to get stuck. Fortunately, with a GDEMU, the frequency if pressing the open button is very minimal. Other than that, for the price of the case, I honestly can’t complain and gives the Dreamcast a fresh new look
