Egret 2 – wiring

Wiring

Saturday was all about wiring! Got to love Operators and their hack/splice and do whatever they need to get something to work. There are better ways to do things, but I understand from an Op’s perspective.

This is what I started working with.

After unraveling it all, I confirmed that the cab has the respective S (button 6 for P1 and P2), F (F3 Stereo) and P (stereo) harnesses , but more electrical tape! :D

At least wires were soldered on and not just spun around the wire and then fixed with electrical tape which isn’t uncommon from previous cabs I’ve worked on.

Patched and heat shrink on, she now looks like a normal JAMMA harness :)

JAMMA edge is now done, 12v was pronged at 12.15v, 5v was exactly on 5.0v, AC was confirmed all fine, the 240v input goes into the switch under the cab, switch then goes into a fuse, then to the inline filter, from the inline filter to the step down ISO to 100v, then into the 100v PSU and Monitor. Unlike Sega Cabs, there seems to only be one switch vs 2 normally for Sega.

Last thing to do on the wiring front was the cable management side of things. Based on the sticky residue and connector holders, I ended up with what I believe was “stock”. The JAMMA edge is on the “shorter” side I thought, but it still fits the stuff I’ve thrown in, so it’s not a massive issue.

When I was tracing out all the wires, there’s two connectors and some loose wires that I found and can’t work out for the life of me why they exist or what their function is for. There is nothing in the schematics that mention a T and an R connector so I’m quite dumb founded

Tracing the wires out, I found the R connector is another AC line and the T connector has a wire that is connected to the R pin on the JAMMA edge which is the Service button. There is also a GND in one of the wires and then 4 wires that go to absolutely nowhere except they were cut in my cab. No idea what the function is.

I’m now at the point where I am happy with the wiring. A big chunk of the work now is pretty much cosmetic. Give it a good clean, a good cut and polish, 1p panel, marquee plexi and some artwork.
