CPS2 Conversion – SF2 New Challengers to Progear!

A mate asked if I could do CPS2 conversions and I’ve previously done them so I said I was happy to do it for him.

He wanted to convert his SF2 New Challengers board to something that he would play more – enter Progear. It also helps to convert as the original Progear with the simm module costs big dollars.

Upon inspecting, the B board is as expected, it was really clean (compared to the one in my previous post :D) and a Rev 3 which installing a jumper wire from the PAL chip to J17.

One of the things I noticed with this paritcular board was the roms that weren’t used weren’t socketed like every other CPS2 B board I’ve seen/worked on. Instead they were factory sealed. NOT GOING TO BE FUN!!

With this conversion, I only needed to desolder the sound data area 11 and 12 – thank goodness for that as they’re a PITA to desolder

Flux, solder, solder sucker, solder wick – rinse and repeat 84 times! :D

Once she was nice and cleaned, I installed sockets on them and burned all the necessary roms and installed them accordingly

Closer look at the PAL install to J17

Had a spare Japanese Progear label and also installed it for my mate

Everything working fine!
